Mediterra members approved a $14 million dollar renovation. The renovation will include improvements to the community’s two golf courses which were designed by Tom Fazio. The upgrades include a complete renovation of of the North Course. The South Course is mid-way through a two-year renovation, with the next phase scheduled to resume April 6 of this year. The North Course project will begin this spring with the installation of a new irrigation system. Golf course improvements to Mediterra’s thirty-six golf holes will introduce premium platinum paspalum grass. This new grass, which is an environmentally friendly emerald-green turf, is known for improved play-ability and durability.
Membership in The Club at Mediterra is limited to 225 members per golf course for a total of 450 golf members. With the limited number of members per course, it is easy to get a tee time. There are a variety of membership options available. Mediterra members also have access to world class practice facilities and learning center.
For those of you interested in homes within the community, there are 31 unique neighborhoods located on nearly 1,700 acres of land. Learn proper extension. Extension is the release of our arms after impact that is the result of a full and powerful move through the ball. A good extension helps both power and accuracy. In practice, place a tee in the ground about one foot in front of your ball. Hit your shots and then try to drive the ball over the tee and let the club head pass over it as well. This drill will force you to extend your arms down the line instead of decelerating or pulling the club head left or right through impact. You will gain better accuracy and contact. On the course, pick a spot on the ground to act as your guide for extension.
Try using your hybrid from the rough. Many times you will face medium-length approach shots of 150-175 yards from the rough to the green. For most golfers, it is difficult to get enough power to hit an iron through the heavy grass to get the ball up and out and carry a good distance. Hybrid clubs offer greater versatility for these shots. The hybrids tend to glide through the grass and not get stuck as the irons do. Learn to choke down on the handle and use less speed in the swing to get the proper distance that you need. You will find that getting out of the rough and getting distance will become a lot easier.
Swinging over the top means that a player moves his/her back shoulder outward as the downswing starts and then swings from out-to-in through impact. The result is usually a badly pulled shot or one that starts left and slices back to the right. In practice, over-exaggerate the opposite move by keeping your back shoulder under as you swing into the ball. Feel as if you are lowering your shoulder under your chin and hitting the ball with an uppercut punch. Head to the driving range and practice some shots with this method until it feels comfortable and then return to your normal swing.

This year, the greater Naples area is among the top 10 in the nation for growth — new statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the Cape Coral-Fort Myers and Naples-Marco-Immokalee metro areas are among the fastest-growing in the country. For Southwest Florida, “this year really stands out,” said Rob Bernstein, a public affairs specialist with the Census Bureau, which released the annual statistics Thursday. The new figures show Cape Coral-Fort Myers ranked 6th in the nation in terms of population growth from 2013 to 2014. That represents 18,177 new citizens, an uptick of 2.7 percent from a year earlier. Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island area ranked 10th. Its population grew by 8,671, a bump up of 2.5 percent.

The February market report released by the Bonita Springs-Estero Association of REALTORS® (B.E.A.R.) showed generally positive results in the single-family market. Closed sale units (69) increased slightly compared with January 2015, but decreased slightly 1.4 percent year over year. The average sale price ($505,380) increased year over year by a significant 25.8 percent. The median days on market (45) continued to decrease year over year, with a drop of 32.8 percent compared with February 2014. Pending inventory also decreased by 8.7 percent year over year, as did inventory (active listings) by 13.2 percent. Click HERE to view full report.

Golf Digest’s Top 100 Public Courses released their latest rankings. Topping the list is Pebble Beach in California. The top ranked Florida course, TPC Sawgrass, comes in at number ten. Click HERE to view the full list.
Streamsong’s Red Course also made the list coming in at number eighteen and the Blue Course came in at number twenty-four.
Even though Naples is known as the golf capital of the world, there are actually only a handful of public golf courses in the area. If you’re looking for a place to play, check out Tiburon or Lely Resort. Both golf communities included two golf courses open to the public.
