Golf Tip – Sand Shots

July 28, 2015 Posted by Matt

sand shotsLearn a variety of sand shots.  There are many types of sand shots, depending on the shot that you are facing.  It is a great idea to experiment with different types of shots in practice so you can use them on the course.  Try squaring up the face of your sand wedge and see how you can control the distance of longer shots.  Try using a pitching wedge for thirty to forty yard bunker shots.  Open the face of your sand wedge as far as possible and see if you can pop it up and spin it to a stop.  Use a lob wedge and enter the sand at different lengths from the ball.  You will learn a lot and have fun.

Golf Tip – Getting Older

July 27, 2015 Posted by Matt

getting olderGetting older?  Don’t give in to age.  As you grow older, you do not need to automatically lose distance and have your handicap go up with your age.  Work on flexibility, strengthen your core muscles so you can turn, and remain stable.  Walk to keep your legs in shape and practice your game as much as possible.  Many golfers now play great golf with single-digit handicaps well into their seventies and enjoy the game into their eighties.  If you put the effort in, you will get a great deal of enjoyment from the game in your golden years.

Evaluate risk and reward

July 26, 2015 Posted by Matt

risk and rewardGolf Tip – Always evaluate risk and reward.  When you are playing well or poorly, you may get out of your comfort zone and make poor decisions on your strategy for a shot.  Be careful to analyze the risk and reward of playing a shot that has trouble nearby.  For example, if it will take a great shot to carry a water hazard, do not risk it; make sure of getting a par instead of making a big score on the hole.  On dogleg holes, make sure you know that you can carry the corner before you try to blast a drive over the trees.  If you have any doubt, play it safe.  Smart golfers usually score a lot better than risk takers.

Golf Tip – Let it go

July 24, 2015 Posted by Matt

golf tip - let it goThe driver is meant to create speed and distance so follow this golf tip – let it go!  Remove any tension from your hands and arms.  You should feel free and just let the club go by, whipping it through impact.  If you try to steer the ball or guide it with a driver, you will not get the distance and accuracy that you need.  Make a big swing and feel loose and relaxed.  More often than not, your drives will fly far and land in the fairway if you commit to the shot and swing with freedom.

Golf Tip – Warm Up Properly

Warm Up Properly

Golf Tip – Warm up properly.  The warm-up period is not a time to work on swing mechanics, as this will only overload you with swing thoughts.  Instead, stretch your muscles, move all parts of your body in some form of exercise, and begin hitting wedge shots.  Concentrate on hitting solid shots with your wedge and accelerate through the ball.  Move up through your bag, hitting about five shots with each club, and finish with your driver.  Hit a few chips, pitches, and then putt just before you go to the first tee.  You should feel relaxed and ready and not tired or anxious.

Golf Tip – Fluffy Sand

July 14, 2015 Posted by Matt

Golf Tip Sand ShotSome courses feature soft and fine sand that appears fluffy.  This type of sand is more difficult than, heavy sand, and the sand wedge will travel differently.  To hit a good shot from fluffy sand, lean the shaft backward away from the ball a little more than usual to create more bounce on the sole of your sand wedge.  Make a shallow swing by going back and through the ball, keeping the club head low to the sand and skimming the ball out rather than going down after it.  In this sand there is always the danger of the club digging too deeply and getting stuck, so that the ball never gets up and out.  Feel as if you are splashing the ball out instead of blasting the sand.  Try this golf tip and your bunker game will improve.

Seems like a reasonable way to get someone to cut the lawn.  I would cut my lawn if my wife put a flag stick in the backyard!
